Work experience

Work experience placements are available to secondary school students who show a genuine interest in art and possibly a desire for further study or work in art.

The experience offers an opportunity to get involved in some of the support functions of the Galleries. It is a chance to develop your knowledge of the workplace and help you determine which areas of work you may be interested in pursuing. Please note that there is no direct involvement with the art, curators, or exhibitions.

Available at: National, Modern, Portrait

Download application and email to volunteer@nationalgalleries.org

What is involved?

The placement is for one week during which each day is spent with a different department helping support day to day activities, shadowing events, and visiting exhibitions where possible. This will give you a broad insight into the activities of the National Galleries of Scotland and allow you to observe "a day in the life" of each department.

How to apply

Please fill in the Application Form provided in the Documents section and be sure to state your availability. Applications will be considered on a rolling basis year-round but please apply no more than six months before your requested dates. We will get back to you as soon as possible to let you know the outcome of your application. Please note that due to the number of requests we receive for work experience placements we are unable to guarantee a place for everyone.
