About this artwork

Neil Munro (1864-1930) was a Scottish journalist and novelist, who became Editor of 'The Glasgow Evening News' and is best known for his publications 'The Lost Pibroch' (1896) and 'John Splendid' (1898). This portrait of him by Dean was the first work by a living artist to be acquired by the Scottish National Portrait Gallery, in 1931.
