Fishing-nets Hung up
About this artwork
Most of Eardley’s seascapes and landscapes were painted spontaneously, outdoors, and without preparatory drawings. This drawing is unusual therefore, since it is one of a number of studies for a large oil painting, Drying Salmon Nets (private collection). The nets are drying on tall larch poles, and the South Row of cottages, where Eardley lived, can be seen beyond them in the distance. She also made a smaller version of the painting, which her mother and sister donated to the people of Catterline after Eardley’s death.
