Walter Carr, 1925 - 1998. Actor and comedian
About this artwork
Water Carr joined the professional theatre ranks in 1955, becoming a member of the Citizens Theatre and later the Gateway Theatre Companies. As an actor, his repertoire included comedy and between 1968 and 1972 Carr became Lex McLean’s foil in all four of McLean’s television series. Around the same time Carr was also appearing as the mate Dougie in the second television version of Neil Munro’s tales of Para Handy, ‘The Vital Spark’. From the 1970s onwards, Carr made regular appearances as a pantomime Dame in theatres throughout Scotland. Rikki Fulton’s favourite memory of Carr was when he asked him to perform one of his characters, to which Carr replied: “Do ye want me to do it with ma teeth in or ma teeth oot?”
