The Study Room houses the Prints and Drawings Collection, which covers a broad range of European graphic art from the early Renaissance to the late nineteenth century.
Consisting of over 30,000 works on paper, the Collection contains 38 watercolours by J.M.W. Turner, bequeathed to the gallery by Henry Vaughan in 1900.
Other highlights include drawings by Blake, Gainsborough, Leonardo, Poussin, Ramsay, Raphael, Rubens, Seurat and Wilkie, plus works by Dürer, Rembrandt, Piranesi, Goya and Scottish printmakers D.Y. Cameron and William Strang.
To visit the Study Room, please ask at the Weston Link information desk at the National Gallery Complex. Opening hours are 10am-12.30pm and 2-4.30pm, Monday to Friday.
Individual visits can be made without an appointment, although for specific research enquiries or for visitors travelling some distance, it is advisable to book ahead.
Adult education initiatives and groups are actively encouraged to use the Prints and Drawings Collection and Study Room. Group visits must be pre-booked and numbers are limited: please contact us to make an appointment.
