There are six categories, each with a different theme:
Category A Nursery, theme: Food is Fantastic
Category B Primary 1-3, theme: A Super Duper Animal
Category C Primary 4-7, theme: Spring, Summer, Autumn, Winter
Category D S1-S2, theme: A Sense of Place
Category E Special Education Schools, theme: Look Up, Look Down
Category F Group Work
Look at a selection of works in the National Galleries of Scotland's Online Collection. There are teaching notes and discussion ideas available in the PDFs for each category. In support of the new Curriculum for Excellence there are suggestions on cross curricular approaches.
Make your own artwork inspired by the theme and works of art. The closing date is Friday 8th May 2009.
An award ceremony will be held in the National Gallery of Scotland in June 2009. Ten prizes will be awarded within Categories A-E and three prizes in Category F.
All winners will receive a special certificate and art materials for themselves. Those placed first to third in each category will also be awarded something special for their school and a free tour and practical workshop for their entire class. Financial assistance will be available to help with travel costs.
The 53 winning entries from 2008 will be on public display at the Pentagon Centre, Washington Street, Glasgow 10 November 2008 – 15 January 2009, open daily 9am-5.30pm. The exhibition will then travel to the Raigmore Hospital, Old Perth Road, Inverness 1 February – 31 May 2009.
